Behave? Not them! Women Behaving Badly extravaganza to be held Sept. 20 in Rapid City at the Dahl arts center

Editor’s note: This is a media release from Women Behaving Badly that we edited to include links.

The Women Behaving Badly extravaganza will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at the Dahl Arts Center, 713 Seventh St., in Rapid City.

The founder of the Women Behaving Badly (WBB) fundraising event, Tammy Barrows, the general manager of Books a Million, holds the biannual Women Behaving Badly event out of the need to recognize and present women authors.

The authors are made available by the South Dakota Festival of Books, presented by South Dakota Humanities. In the past, Women Behaving Badly (in the tradition of Parisian can-can dancers from a century ago depicted in the above painting by Julius Paulson) has featured authors from diverse disciplines, including fashionista vampires, women as gun-toting detectives, biker women in the Black Hills, or women who write novels with an erotic flair.

This year’s authors are nationally known and no less innovative. The authors are:
Katherine Center, New York Times bestselling author of “The Bodyguard” and the Reigning Queen of Comfort Reads.

Kelly Florence and Meg Hafdahl, co-authors of the Science of Horrors Series and co-hosts of the Horror Rewind Podcast.

Sarah Penner, New York Times bestselling author of “The London Séance Society” and “The Lost Apothecary.”

There will be a musical addition to the evening with an appearance by Si Issler from “Inclined,” a Patsy Cline tribute show.

Books by the authors will be on sale from Books a Million. The authors will remain after the presentations for a book-signing.

All proceeds from WBB are directed to the Dacoda Instrument Drive providing refurbished band and orchestra instruments for Rapid City School music students without the family resources to purchase or rent an instrument. The cost to refurbish the instruments has tripled since the drive began 20 years ago. As students are back in school, the need for funds to repair instruments is urgent.

The event will include a silent auction. All the usual swag items will be on sale including Women Behaving Badly T-shirts. A cash bar is provided by the Dahl staff.

Men will be allowed into the authors’ show if accompanied by a Badly Behaved Woman. Buy tickets in advance for $15 and $20 the day of the show. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the event begins at 6:30 p.m.

For tickets, call the Dahl at 605-394-4101.
